What mold removal costs in Nashville

Mold inspection and cleanup help across Davidson County and the towns around it(615) 558-4874

Nobody can price a mold job from a website, and that includes us. The companies who take Nashville calls set their own prices after they've seen the house. What we can do is show you the typical ranges published by a national cost guide and explain what moves a quote, so you can tell a reasonable estimate from a padded one. The figures below are national, from Fixr, and local quotes may land above or below them.

Remediation ranges

Fixr's mold remediation guide, updated in August 2025, puts most jobs between $1,500 and $9,000, with an average of about $3,500, and a typical rate of $10 to $30 per square foot of affected area. By size:

Affected areaTypical range (Fixr, national)
50 sq ft$500 – $1,500
100 sq ft$1,000 – $3,000
200 sq ft$2,000 – $6,000
500 sq ft$5,000 – $15,000
1,000 sq ft$10,000 – $30,000

By location in the house:

Where the mold isTypical range (Fixr, national)
Bathroom$500 – $1,500
Crawl space$500 – $2,000
Basement$1,500 – $4,000
Attic$1,500 – $9,000
Inside walls$1,000 – $12,000
HVAC system and ducts$3,000 – $10,000
Whole house$10,000 – $30,000

When mold follows a leak or flood, Fixr's figure for handling the water damage and the mold together is $2,700 to $10,000.

Inspection and testing

Fixr's inspection guide, updated January 2025, gives $450 to $800 for an inspection, averaging about $500, based on a 2,500-square-foot home with two samples sent to a lab. Additional samples run $60 to $80 each, and air testing on its own is listed at $500 to $700. Before paying for samples, read when testing is worth it; when mold is visible, EPA says sampling is usually unnecessary.

What pushes a Nashville quote up

Comparing quotes fairly

Put two or three written estimates side by side and check that each one describes the same work: the area size, containment method, what will be removed, how drying will be verified, and whether rebuild is included. A much cheaper quote often leaves out containment or removal, and a much pricier one may include rebuild the others didn't. Ask whether the price is fixed or can change once walls are opened, and how changes are approved.

Insurance and who pays

Coverage depends on your policy and on the cause. Metro Water Services' flood brochure points out that a standard homeowner's policy doesn't cover flooding, so mold that follows creek or river water is usually a flood insurance question. Photograph everything and call your insurer before major tear-out. For what the work should include, see mold remediation; to check a contractor's license, see the licensing guide.

Frequently asked

How much does mold remediation cost on average?

Fixr lists a national range of $1,500 to $9,000 with an average around $3,500. Local prices are set by each company after it sees the job.

Why do mold quotes vary so much?

Quotes differ in how much material they remove, what containment they use, whether the moisture source is fixed and whether rebuild is included. Compare the written scope, not just the total.

Does homeowners insurance pay for mold?

It depends on the policy and the cause. Metro Water Services notes that standard homeowner policies exclude flooding, which needs separate flood insurance. Ask your insurer before tear-out starts.
